Show Theme

“Steampunk”

There are many facets to this theme. Make sure you research the culture, clothing, etc. It isn’t just gears and metallic. You want to wow the judges with your interpretation of the theme with your new and inventive methods, mediums, etc. Your show piece tiered or non tier can be made out of Styrofoam or any other cake substitute.. Show piece should represent this year’s theme Steam Punk and need to meet a min height of 24” and meet or exceed a minimum of 100 servings. Each show piece should fit on a 36″ round table. Ensure your entries can fit comfortably in this space.

Celebration Single Tier:

Any theme such as Birthday, Anniversary, Holiday ETC…Any sugar medium or technique may be used. (Does not include Wedding)

Celebration Tiered:

Any theme such as Birthday, Anniversary, Holiday ETC…Any sugar medium or technique may be used. (Does not include Wedding)

Butter Cream Only

Any tiered/non Tiered, with any theme (except wedding) using only butter cream Icing. No fondant, non edible decoration or any other sugar medium is allowed.

Sculpted:

Sculpture cake can be 2D or 3D. Styrofoam or other medium such as modeling chocolate or rice treats etc…may be used as long as the majority of your entry is real cake. Three in process photos (without the artist in the picture) will need to be submitted with your entry .

Cultural Wedding

Take a look at some of the most interesting cultural weddings from Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Swedish Moroccan and even Cajun history. Let your imagination run wild as you wow us with your interpretation of a cultural wedding design. Any size tiered cake acceptable for wedding. Any style, sugar medium or technique may used.

Special Techniques not on a cake

Any and all sugar displays not on a cake. Examples include; floral display, blown and pulled sugar, painting on a plaque, figurine work etc.. May use any sugar medium.

COOKIES!

Any decorated cookies with any theme. May use any sugar medium. Minimum of 6 cookies required.

Cake Pops

Any decorated cake pops wih any theme. Must use real cake. May use any sugar medium . Minuemn of 6 cake pops.

Cupcakes

Any decorated cupcake with any theme. Must use real cake with cupcake liner. May use any sugar medium. Minium of 6 cupcakes.

No More Boring Boards!

A unique category this year will have everyone thinking outside the box! A minimum of a 16”, maxium 24” (any shape) cake board must be completely decorated including the edge. The board must have room to show where a cake could sit on top. Bring your boring boards to life in this fun category!

 

Competition Rules


    • Cake Fest Louisiana cake and tasting competition is open to all of the public.
    • Deadline for registration is: Monday, March 28, 2016.
    • Registration fees are:  $35.00 for SHOW THEME $30.00 All Categories (except Child & Youth and Show Theme) $15.00 Child/Youth $15.00 Tasting Competition
      • Entry fees are nonrefundable.
      • Registration fee includes your one day admission.
      • Competition entries must be solely the work of the entrant, with exception of the Child/Youth Division* *Child/Youth may receive help with baking from an adult but all decorating must be by the child/youth.
      • Competition entries (excluding SHOW THEME) must not exceed 24”L X 24”W space.
      • Electricity will not be available for any competition entry.
      • Do not use glue or any other items you would not use on real cake to secure your decorations. If using non-edible items, such as toothpicks and wires, make sure they are not inserted directly into the cake.
      • If your entry is bigger than the allotted 24″x24″, please contact the show directors at info@cakefestlouisiana.com to arrange for accommodations.
      • Do not put any business name, advertisements or photos on your display (except when required for the sculpted category.)
      • Cake Decorating Competition entries must signed in and dropped off at the follow times/location:

Double Tree Hotel-4th floor at the Ballroom Foyer Friday April 1, 2016 5:00pm-9:00pm Saturday April 2, 2016 7:00am-9:00 am

      • Any competition entries deemed in poor taste will be disqualified and removed from the competition. Disqualification is solely the decision of the judge coordinator and/or show directors.
      • Tasting Competition entries must be signed in and dropped off at the following time/location:

Double Tree Hotel-4th floor at the Ballroom Foyer Saturday April 2, 2016 7:00am-11:30 am

      • Any and all questions from competition entrants and judges, as well as the placement and disqualification of competition entries, will be decided by the lead judge. The lead judge’s decision is final.
      • Competition entries will have a judges’ score sheet which will display marks awarded for each criteria. Score sheets will be placed next to your entry on Sunday April 3 before the start of the show.
      • Awards ceremony will take place Sunday April 3, 2016 at 5:30pm.
      • Winners, or a representative, must be present to receive your award. All entrants in the child/youth division will be recognized for their participation.
      • 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded in each division and category.
      • One Best in Show winner will be awarded from all the 1st place winners from all divisions.
      • Competition entries must stay in place until Sunday April 3, 2016 by 5:00pm. All competitions entries must be removed by 8:00pm, Sunday April 3, 2016. Any and all competition entries not removed will become property of Cake Fest Louisiana and will be discarded upon discretion.
      • Cake Fest Louisiana and the Double Tree Hilton will not be held responsible for any damage or theft to competition entries or personal property although all precautions will be taken.
      • Cake Fest reserves the rights to photograph all entries for promotional purposes.
